Life is not crewel.....

Day 72

no it is not crewel but I am doing yet another 70s sewing kit I found while thrifting....in lovely 70s colors lucky for me the thread was all protected from sunlight over the years by being in the package so it still has lots of that pea green hue that was so popular...yick.

G2 found this while thrifting and I let her go to town, no input from me and I did not care if she read the directions and just had fun with it. It came with all the pencils in different hard/softness and she did use them all experimenting with the different shades...lots of fun and that is the most important part of art and new experiences right?!

These are part of the organza flowers that we are making for the upcoming Momtasterrific Craftery night....pretty eh?

and the organza in sparkly shades!! What colors will you pick?

I thought these were hilarious. We had to get new tennis shoes (new not thrifted) for dryland training because G1 has joined a new swim team and she beelined for these from across the store, can't miss her eh? And yes they are bright enough to reflect off the flash of the camera and at least I don't have to wear them...probably what my mom thought when I insisted on wearing Chucks and Duckshoes waay back in time when Marty McFly had to rescue his existence and Ducky was pretty in Pink...oooh get those movie references lol

and look what else I found thrifting a beautiful glass jar to put my ribbon sticks in....what do you think? I think it will look good in my new creative lair that we are working on downstairs...

Busy week, totally random things...working on a TODO list that insists on growing longer by the minute.......life is just a bowl of cherries isn't it? So make sure you

Falling off the wagon....

Day 67

yes, yes apparently I have fallen off the blogging wagon and hard --->call the Whambulance I'm gonna white here buuut I have been Facebooking and some Twittering.....and and I just have not been taking lots of pictures lately! OK done whining now.

No excuses and in all reality I enjoy blogging way more than any other social networking method it just is so easy to get lazy and miss a couple of posts....so here is a bit of what we have been up to around here...

Finishing up the girls summer clothes....packaged and sent off seeds to friends and in a seed exchange...sent off my Cinderella slipper block...sketching things....homeschooling...running the girls to their classes...and just general life stuff...so here's some fun things...

.... got a package of bits and bobs and inspirational things from Blue Nickel --he is AMAZING

....don't yooooouuu throw stuff onto your work table just for inspiration? And yes those are washers that I am currently incorporating into a piece...

I am on the hunt for organza scraps for my flower craft during April's craft night

my girls are working on a latchhook rug that they acquired at a garage sale...

I am trying to re-use and think of ideas for found objects to be used in my creative lair...I cut salt cedar branches (an invasive species but such a beautiful red color) the branches at been dumped in the open space behind my house--so I cut them in small pieces and am going to use them for ribbons! Just gotta find a cool looking jar or vase....

These are my treasured paper (and some silk) flowers that I keep finding one by one in my various thrifting travels

Type-A Nibbler makes an appearance with some Organza beauties

Day 65

Meet Type-A...an obsessive Nibbler of the rabbit variety....he is the prototype for the craft we are making this Friday at the Momtasterrific Craftery night --the other samples of what we actually will make will be up this week I just wanted to give this little cutie his own page since he was a work-in-progress and is different from his brethren. Doesn't he remind you of something out of one of Leo Leonni's books? (FYI beautiful piece written by his Granddaughter here can you imagine being raised by someone so talented?) This likeness is completely unintentional but apparently I was subconsciously channeling him...I read enough of his books as a child and then to my girls. So many favorites that the books were literally loved to falling apart. Wherever the inspiration came from I will take it because it was so much fun to draw him and make him completely my idea come to life from paper!

Next was a simple white crocheted shawl that I thrifted last week and wanted to add to it with some Spring color--most likely just a wish to not be cold for a few more months....unfortunately did not get a good outdoor picture today because I forgot but tomorrow I will get some good pics of it...

OK so mine did not turn out just like one of the many tutorials I found on the web--here is a good tute-- but I used differently qualities of organza and I really felt like the higher quality melted better and I know that I want none of these fabrics near my body and a heat source they melted so quickly! This is an after picture....

This is a before picture...or after being melted and before being put together as a flower...AND I did not cut them into flower shapes merely a circular shape because I wanted a poppy type look. This was one craft though my hubby could get into and he had a glint in his eye watching me hold it over the flames--playing with fire, burning things BOYS!--anyway he said if I cut him some more this weekend he will do a few more trials so I will be excited to see what he comes up with, he is actually very artistic and I love working with him!

Anyway this was a nice distraction but we are on some pretty tight deadlines this week as well as all the homeschooling still going on.....be inspired, stay creative!

What do Nibblers and parties in Texas have in common?

Day 64

HUH?! What?! Oh nothing I just couldn't think of anything to put in the title....

This post was supposed to be posted last night but I literally fell asleep at the laptop......did you set your clocks forward? I swear every time I do it I want to rebel and keep my clocks the same in protest but then I would be hour late for everything so I have caved to peer pressure and changed the times in my battery powered wall clock the fact that our phones and computers change automatically will keep me honest I suppose.

Now on to my post....when I was thrifting this past week I found a bag of stuff, just little doohickeys and things that I just had to include have even though the bag looked like trash and my girls were giving me the eyeball 'mom you are crazy' look. But I love little stuff like this to be able to add to my artwork! This particular bag of stuff was all party goodies and it just cracked me up because I could imagine this Texas woman and her husband throwing parties for their friends....high class, finger foods, glasses clinking, ten gallon hats, lots of bling, full bar with swizzle sticks for all the drinks signifying their love for the 'Don't Mess with Texas' state (seriously this is the name of their litter campaign but when I first moved there I thought it was a threat to us outsiders) perhaps this party was celebrating Alamo Day or something....

or it could have been just a fun summer tiki party complete with little umbrellas and pears in the drinks.......margarita anyone? Oh yes I can see them dancing now 'you put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up' bunny hopping their way across the lawn.....

and look at these funky gift wrapping papers that were leftover from wrapping so many presents for so many parties--there is a paper for everyone's taste here.....oh these papers are just divine I must do something special with them....

And here is a preview of a party of my own I am throwing....the monthly Momtasterrific Craftery night where we will be making little rabbits I call (ominous loud booming voice) Nibbler Bunnies.... more cute previews later as it gets closer (in April we are making May Flowers)

More later as I post todays post today....and much love to friends from Texas who just moved to New Mexico....are you sure you didn't clean out your closet when you moved here? lol lol
