Klezmer Gig at the El Rey

And don't get all riled up because it was a bar...her teacher and all the band members that belong to this are not a rough crowd and they would never suggest G2 go if it was not ok.

OK yes after that fashion drama she did end up taking off the Tinker Bell top and no their band is not called Stardeath or the White Dwarfs or the Commitments lol they are the Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer Band mouthful I know but this was a cool picture of the marquee before we went in.....the El Rey has a long history and it has had several incarnations as various things and I am pretty sure it was one of the buildings damaged (they all share walls) when there was a fire in the bar next door last year, someone told me that is an old bar as well that used to be the Golden Saloon...when you go inside it is not a lot of glamour and glitz it is exactly what I would picture a Route66 out in the middle of no where in a dusty town to look like with some painted decos on the walls...you can tell it was a theatre but there are no theatre seats, just a big wooden dance floor where the orchestra pit was and a tiered seating area with tables and a balcony for more seating

The person at the door was not really sure at first thinking I was with the band and just bringing my kid with me but then G2 told them she was with the band-he did not really say anything to that which cracked me up.

The bartender was really nice giving her a Shirley Temple with her musician comped drink ticket and then said how cool G2 was playing when we were leaving. We watched the band before us with some beautiful belly dancers. Then it was time to get set up and play!

They had started late (after 10PM) because the first band started late so they sort of whipped through their songs in about an hour or so....some of the audience came up to me telling me how cute G2 was because she kept yawning lol but she played really well staying up with the band-I think all the band was tired. G2 even played her solo and there was a lot of dancing as usual.....maybe about 40 people in the audience, yea those folk music fans are a raucous bunch. This is a great music to bring kids to because there is so much dancing!

I got a picture of G2 under the lights and on stage, while she has played on a stage never on a theatre stage with the theatre lights...she said her music book was blue because of the light and by the end of the session her hair was puffing up in back because it was so hot under the lights.

Got home at midnight...And she just got to bed a little after 1AM she was so keyed up that is the musician life and they have been asked back again in a couple of weeks as the bar wants to play Fiddler on the Roof and then have the band play lol....and the band mates said they need to do a real musican life and have breakfast afterwards at some all hours place to show G2 how it is really done lol lol lol....

She is so amazing...both of my kids are, but this musical talent that she has just boggles my mind every time I watch her....thank goodness she does it because she loves it!
