Sophie Tunic Pattern Review--Amazing stuff

This pattern is just amazing, absolutely hands down one of the best patterns I have ever used...normally I see a pattern and I end up reading it through once and then winging it from there...not this pattern this one was just FABULOUS I mean I can not gush enough about how easy it was to work through and follow the directions...EVERY helpful tidbit is down in detailed pictures & drawings and full color pictures--seriously I could go on and on about how great this is and how you just HAVE to purchase this--it really is a MUST HAVE...this pattern is PERFECT for a beginning sewer and for a novice sewer who just needs some hand holding.....and an experienced sewer

I purchased it from YouCanMakeThis so I could download the pattern in e-book format and at first I was intimidated when I saw how many pages and pieces but OH MY THE EXTREME DETAILS of this pattern..it is enough to make a sewist SWOON and cry at the same time...sounds dorky but I was so happy that this pattern did not end in frustration--I WILL be making this again this week actually!

yes you have to cut out the pieces and match them together but this is serious foolproof pattern matching and lets get serious you don't HAVE to print out the pattern directions just have it up on your computer to save paper and only print out the pattern pieces you need.

I made this in a size 10-12 but she is at that point where I am glad I also purchased the Patricia tunic for women because I think she needs a women's small

this one is a shark fabric cover-up for her swim team called the 'Desert Sharks' and it was a sample that I made to see how the pattern worked before I made some nicer ones.

She was so excited after putting it on I was not allowed to trim up any loose strings and it is all wrinkled now because she was sitting and playing in it for a few hours before I tricked her into coming outside for pics...but that is what clothes for kids are about making them comfy enough to live and play in right?!

But that explains why the neckline and the bottom do not sit like the pattern shows because she was dancing around while I was trying to get pics telling me to hurry up but it looks exactly like the pattern when it was flat lol.....

that is another thing about this pattern EVERYTHING lined up EXACTLY right to the 'T' it was just amazing go get yourself one you will NOT be disappointed!

pattern makers could use a little more creators with science background in my opinion...thanks Carla C.! Scientific Seamstress rocks!

I am hooked now I will be getting all their patterns and wow just finding some amazing inspiration....

  2. This is adorable. I love your fabric choice. Question? You said you also purchased the Patricia Tunic pattern. I have been looking to purchase it for some time and wondered if you have made that one yet. If so, was it just as simple as the childrens pattern? Most reviews say to go down a size when making it because it runs large. Did you find that to be true? Thanks for your help.

  3. To be truthful every single one of the patterns by Carla (AKA Scientific Seamstress) are hands down the best out there in the sewing world (with Oliver +s & their Lisette patterns coming a close second). I guess I had not heard about the reviews saying to go down a size but once we got the measurements matched to the right sizes they fit perfectly...that is one of the things I love about her patterns is that they fit so well. Let me know what you think after you make it and if you have any more questions! Sis Boom and the Scientific Seamstress have Facebook pages too and you can ask them anything!
