Day 116
As quoted from Astrid of 'How to Train Your Dragon' movie fame
the only thing I did not like about creating this was the tan color of the skirt, too light against the 'bones' but it was one she found that fit from a thrift store
the skulls in the cartoon version are much smaller and sort of more like a bird shape but I was looking to fill up the area in this skirt that would have looked empty so I made them larger, vaguely human shaped-very vaguely-and each one is uniquely hand sculpted and painted-yes the one skull is upside down only because they can spin on the screw and I did not turn it right side up......
seriously some Sculpey hand molded, baked and then a dab of brownish paint in each eye indentation, a quick swish with a paintbrush on the lines and then a sea sponging of greyish/whitish/redishbrown mixed together on top....I will be curious how these hold up to a wearing because they could bump against something and crack but I also think they are stronger than they look
{Mom if you are reading this send more sponges from Tarpon Springs please! I am almost out!}
Thanks to the creative brain of Studio Miche all these took were some grooves with a plastic fork before baking and the same sea sponge painted effect as on the skulls and voila' instant bones! These are molded around aluminum foil which in turn is wrapped around the screw part of leather rivets and then they were all attached with the rivets through holes punched in the leather--yes the bones even FELT like bones, LOVED it!
definitely needed a darker reddish leather as a background so if my client wants to switch these out all of the spikes and skulls are easily removed and put onto another skirt!
Side note: I am cracking myself up here because I accidentally put the bone spikes from largest to smallest when it was supposed to be the other way around AH WELL at least all she has to do is unscrew them and change them out
What are you gonna create this week?
