Getting inspired for Spring....

Day 136

I have been sewing but nothing really to take pictures of just stuff here and there around the house and for clients. Today though TODAY I hope to do some creative stuff....

As I sit here for hours arranging and sorting pictures on my harddrive I look for inspiration to sew for Spring ideas....here are just a few things I have sewn for the girls in the past few years....

probably my favorite thing I have sewn hmmm I just might make another one up for her this year...

Flashback Creation: Fashion Trunk

This is another one I am moving over from my old blog to be able to shut that one down....this is such a great toy trunk that G2 has in her room as you can see by the bright yellow walls behind it her colors run very vibrant and this trunk was one of our first clues lol...she completely chose the square designs and what pictures to use and we catch her sitting on it and reading all the time now or else one of the cats is using it as a sleeper sofa...





















G2 chose the Mary Englebreit fabric and all the colors and stickers-she is very firm in what she likes-you can see the bright colors she has in her room by the yellow on the wall---inside of the lid with scrapbook pieces of 'seed packets' and victorian clothing (these are actually 3D and required a lot of clear coat)---This trunk was also a dirty white and had to be repaired on the bottom, I just coincidentally found them two weeks apart at garage sales and knew what I was meant to do, lol, we did add a kid safety hinge on this one because the lid tended to slam down.

Flashback Creation: Dragon Traveling Trunk

Oh gosh I just loooove this trunk that I made for G1 years ago just love it...as usual I just winged it and made it what we both thought it should look like. So cute and funny she was 6 when I made this SNIFFLE she will be 11 this year

Made this for G1 as a part of her Harry Potter themed room. It is a traveling trunk to go along with her dragon hunting. The stickers are from one of the Dragonology books. The trunk was a garage sale find ugly, dirty and white. We used leather belts from goodwill as the straps and we used backplates for behind drawer pulls for the metal pieces. We used travel scrapbook pieces and decoupaged them on and covered everything with tons of layers of clear water based coat.

Flashback Creation: Guitar Hero Bags

What made me think of these today is the fact that I made these in Jan of last year and the girls STILL carry them around and YES they are as cool as they look in the pics I am very proud of these....course improvements can be made but they absolutely ROCK my girls' worlds!

These were absolutely so fun to make for the girls. G1 of course wanted the spidey fabric I had in my scraps and I think it turned out pretty cool. G2 wanted pink and black but I wish she had picked a darker color so the wii remote would stand out more. For those that do not know these were traced from the Guitar Hero guitar controller that is used in a video game called Guitar Hero and the girls received it at solstice. You put the wii remote into the guitar and the strums and such are done with buttons! The buttons on these guitars were some vintage ones I had and they perfectly matched the shininess and width of the real ones but they were a tad too heavy for the fabric-not a big deal cause they turned out fine! I lined the spidey one with blue satin and ended up putting a zipper on the pink one since she wanted to be able to carry dolly accessories to her friend's house and not have them fall out which made it bunch at the top a little. Also the whammy bar is not as big as it should be on the pink one cause she wanted it that way. All of these were modeled after the inspiration from this one.

Flashback Creations of Momtastic

This is a simple cape I was testing to see what I could do with it...the fringe is the kind that falls off easily so for now it is just decoration but I love the colors and guess who put it all together colorwise? Hub! He is amazing at picking these things!


























These are the Studio Tantrum ZUma pants again...these are so very very easy to make and the girls love them as they are so comfy! I made these with Disney fairy fabric and when we took our vacation to Disneyland even the princesses commented on how cool they were and people standing in line were wondering where we bought them in the park!























The are more Zuma pants but G1 wanted Micky Mouse and some tie dyed fabric mixed in....they both wear these pants ALL the time and I have made them with a variety of fabrics!

Flashback Creations of Momtastic

I am a pretty avid sewer of creations for my daughters and our home...these are just some of the things I have made in the past. I am willing to try just about any pattern and not afraid to embellish or change when I need to...for now the pictures of things I have made are as they are wearing them as I get into sewing for others I will get better at photo taking...but for now here they are...

These first 2 pics are of Olivia the Pig fabric into an outfit for my violin playing daughter..she wanted them to be bright and she chose the combo and design. I adapted 2 Simplicity patterns for these.
























These next 2 pics are of an adapted peasant top with a clip gathering at the back and some skull appliques on the sides. G1 saw the skirt I made above and requested a shirt out of the bold black and white stripes, I love these because they are so wide.

My favorite curtains in the house I made...they are in our beach themed loft and I love how bright they are and when the sun shines through them they have a pink glow






















This is just a simple skirt with a knit waist..the music fabric is a Japanese print on a thick almost canvasey weave. It was interesting to sew with but I don't know if I like it cause it was so thick and frayed easily.






















This is the Misty skirt from Ottobre Design issue 1/2008 I love the way it poofs out a little and it has a second layer underneath that adds some color






















This is a jean to skirt refurb at the request of G2. She hated wearing jeans or anything denim until recently and so I made it into a skirt and added the panels of a purple butterfly/flower print with organza cutouts






















This is a skirt at the request of G1 it is made of 2-way stretch knit and it can be worn as a dress also as it has long ties that wrap around, it is the Gretchen Collection for teens by Simplicity






















Ms Spider shirt again...it looks good on this shoppper...it has ties in the back!






















And this is the tunic I made for G1 brown with the gold owls out of a knit fabric.

























That is all for now I will pretty much sew and try anything! How do you know what you can do if you don't try and if you are afraid of mistakes just think of them as creative opportunities!

Flashback Creation: Halloween 2008

Yes I actually made these costumes this year...G2 is wearing her Jasmine costume (of Disney Princess fame) and despite all the swearing I did in sewing with satin fabric it turned out ok, gosh that stuff pulls and frays a lot--one day I might experiment more with it--I used Simplicity 3626 costume pattern...it was fun to make, very easy and looks cute on her even though she had to wear a shirt underneath since it was chilly out. It did have an organza layer or it was supposed to and we dropped that because it was too much and did not look like the REAL Jasmine. I LOVED making that lamp, you can't tell but it is a candy bag and turned out pretty sturdy (Hey Cathead yes I made a bag lol)I used a fleece scrap instead of batting (I hate batting) and it worked so much better and made the stitches stand out more

G1 is wearing what is supposed to be Silver from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games






yes yes I know Silver is actually white but hey she fell in love with the shiny fabric and who am I to say no to fabric love.... she told me what she wanted and chose the fabric the rest is history. I used the Zuma pants from Studio Tantrum and just winged the rest of it (my favorite way to sew and create)....and I am STILL finding silver hairs all over the place from her hairy chest lol lol lol I mean vest. The floppy hair/hat thing was so cute on her but it did not stand up like it should, I stuffed the things with fiberfill and it was light enough to not make her want to take it off all evening....and the gloves well those were a last minute experiment using some sweater material from HipStitch and she likes them but I have to do some more experimenting to keep the edges from fraying too much.

Flashback Creation: Psst Hey Ma the 70s are back or was that the 60s?

No matter she loves them...just loves them. They are so polyester they stay completely bell shaped at the bottom of the pant ah man-made flammable fibers how I sometimes love thee....I used a Simplicity Gaucho pattern, can not recall now it has been so long (last year) lol but it had the cute tie at the waist like a pirate and it was really easy to make!
