Touch My Stitches #14 : Brunhilda, Zellandine, Talia, Briar Rose, Aurora, Sleeping Beauty

Day 268:   Whatever her name in the past my favorite is Briar Rose.  It amazes me at the sanitized versions of fairy tales compared to the original adult gruesome versions.

This an embroidery from www.UrbanThreads.com  I love, love, LOVE all the choices I have on their site.

The roses on the left side are original to the vintage pillowcase.  For the embroidery portion we picked colors similar to the roses.  I really like how they truly complement each other.  Even the words did not turn out too dark so that they blended better.

I loved working on this old cotton fabric.  You can tell the quality of workmanship compared to today's products, this was so thick and heavy and will surely outlast modern wovens.

Here is a picture of the back of the stitching.  I am very proud of how my hand stitch work is progressing over the years.  I really like the look of the back, one day I might even use the back as the front!

This will go into the Artfire shop tomorrow, I need to soak the tracing marks off and do a bit of ironing.
Next up are some His and Hers Zombies!

Touch My Stitches #13: Sewing Vintage

Day 267  Its days like this that keep me off the computer and I love it.  I have all these projects in the works just for hand embroidery.  Plus one more for a client, so I will show you that one later.

Many of the hand embroidery designs I am using are from www.UrbanThreads.com their library is very creative and rapidly growing.

Every project I hand sew amazes me at the time it takes to work on just one little section and gets me thinking about sewing in history and sometimes how it was literally from shearing to dyeing and sewing item as well as the decoration and how much time went into one piece.

I Get My Thrills Thrifting #7: Aprons and Vintage Sewing Books

Day 263   Having a bit of trouble with the new Taichi format so hopefully we will get it out tomorrow.  In the meantime you will have to just be satisfied with a few treasures from our thrifting adventures.

I love sales at thrift stores.  Picked up a bunch of unique pillow cases for my reclaimed fabric aprons that will be coming out starting this week.

Found this gem sitting amongst the books.  Excellent condition for a paper booklet.  I might just have to make some of these shirts up for the hub.

This was my favorite find of the week.

And it came for patterns for each featured item in the book.  I just love seeing history all wrapped up in sewing and needlepoint.

I get my thrills thrifting....#1

Day 215  My hub and I have been having a blast searching the local thriftique stores for fabrics to be used in our upcoming linens (more on that tomorrow) and we have also decided to either find or make, using found things, MOST of the gifts for the girls this year.  We have been really successful to date but I can't show you anything yet...yet...ooo but I am really excited for them to open these gifts they are so perfect for them.

I decided it would be fun to share with you what we find every week.  Most of the linens will be going into our Emporium for sale stock either as they are or remade.

I have not a clue what this is...homemade or manufactured toy...he is bizarrely weird regardless and is now  name Skog and a part of our family.

This cool ceramic owl.  We all loves our owls around here, especially if they are unique.

These are old money bags.

Could not resist this adorable little stitched mouse.  It looks like it was a  pillow cover maybe?

This tea towel is losing some of its stitches but it is still in fairly good shape.  Not sure of the age but  it does not feel or look modern made.

Aliens have taken my brain cause the UFOs are leaving...

Day 164  Yes thats right for some reason the UFOs (UnFinished sewing Objects) in my house are disappearing, literally vanishing either out the door in donation boxes or actually *GASP* being completed....LOTS of clothing upcycling and redos going on here for back to school~the girls are on break from sports before school starts the end of this week so if I can convince them of some modeling shots I will but they are being all mulish and hoarding their 2 weeks of vacay time~who can blame them?

So while the girls spend their days reading, designing fashions, painting, writing and doing LOTS of art I have been busy with several sewing jobs, cleaning out fabrics, dreaming up (and putting into action) projects and just generally having FUN!  I am in love with my chosen career path.....it is not always easy, it definitely has ups and downs BUT right now I am content.

Sokka got a little tired of Shark Week I think, this is how we found him Saturday afternoon , crazy cat

Vintage fabric from Hawaii, one side of a sleeping bag

More vintage Hawaiian fabric-this was originally a sleeping bag given to me as a kidlet and now used by my oldest as a blanket.

The assembly line of UFOs....

Crocheted squares that I found in a box of fabric I got on Freecycle...turned into a  rug.

Crocheted squares completed rug, this will look great after we finish pulling up the carpet and painting the downstairs floor!  Will definitely have to come up with more rug ideas!

Teeny ripped paper collage pieces of (surprise LOL) another Pokemon named Silglyph by G1

Some more ripped paper collage art by G1, yet another pokemon, named Honchkrow

We have been getting so much done I had time to lay in the grass~we rarely see grass in NM and this patch was just begging for me to lay in.....

The beautiful blue sky~the norm in NM~the view from the grass...

Trees taller than a shrub, another rarity where we live in NM.  Perfect place for dreaming don't you think?
Well gotta get back to the Creative Lair.....make sure to stop and smell the roses today okay?~ Then go out and create something will ya?!

Been a long time but still here....

Day 157

Yea things have been crazy around here just getting back to the love of friends and family. We haven't been resting on our laurels though we have kept plenty busy.....lots of sewing going on in the background prepping for a few shows and lots of jobs coming up. I will share more tomorrow...

.....my mom sent me out another box of goodies, these beautiful rubbings from Thailand(?) she found in my Grandmother's things....

....aren't they wonderful? I am trying to figure out where they will go because I have to hang them up....

...these dishes that belonged to my Grandmother came in the box as well...fancy and old and I love them....except for a few we use all of our dishes regularly since every day is a special occasion or at least one to be celebrated!!

....the last beautiful things in the box were these pieces of an old quilt with some different types of Sunbonnet Sues than I have seen, applique combined with embroidery....

....to me they look like pieces of feedsack prints too....LOVE IT!

....how Easter ended....that is my table I painted, it looks pretty in this picture against the eggs and jelly bean colors I think...

....egg dyeing process, always best to do outside when you have more than a few kids involved...

....our second fancy dance complete with lots of girls getting done up together and arriving together...

...I tell ya these girls make me cry they are so beautiful inside and out....that is my G2 on the far left in the long purple dress...sniff hard to believe I will have a teenager in a matter of months...sob...happy thoughts for the future...

my 2 beautiful G girls together at Easter...I love them so...

....the whole Easter crew before hiding and seeking 189 plastic eggs now THAT was fun!...

...the end of the day snuggling with the stuffed Easter bunny....I hope your days were beautiful and bright.
