I get my thrills thrifting #9: Rad Plaid Suitcase among other things

Day 277  Found the perfect little plaid suitcase to take with me to store my traveling sewing projects.

Its so cute. And in perfect condition just needed a good wipe down.  Now I can lay the suitcase flat and unzip for an easy peasy little work station.

Also found more variety of vintage DMC threads.  Got some samplings to try out before going back and picking up more.  Here the samples are laying in the inside of the suitcase.

And FINALLY I get a mannequin~you know me, I find the cheap but quality goods here and with a lot of patience I found one!  Gonna have to give her a name before the mole guy gets too uh attached to her, doesn't he look pervy and I SWEAR to you I did move him there, it wasn't until I pulled up the image that I saw him checking her out.

Got a great Mad Scientist project we just wrapped up to show you, very steampunk, made by my husband and my youngest daughter and I have already been wearing mine.

I Get My Thrills Thrifting #7: Aprons and Vintage Sewing Books

Day 263   Having a bit of trouble with the new Taichi format so hopefully we will get it out tomorrow.  In the meantime you will have to just be satisfied with a few treasures from our thrifting adventures.

  I love sales at thrift stores.  Picked up a bunch of unique pillow cases for my reclaimed fabric aprons that will be coming out starting this week.

Found this gem sitting amongst the books.  Excellent condition for a paper booklet.  I might just have to make some of these shirts up for the hub.

This was my favorite find of the week.

And it came for patterns for each featured item in the book.  I just love seeing history all wrapped up in sewing and needlepoint.

Scenes from My Sketchbook #9: Fascinated by Colcha

Day 212

Some days you have to just let go of what you think is important for what is really important.  This weekend were some of those days.  My girls had a swim meet with the club they belong too meaning hub and I volunteered to help which translates to extreme exhaustion after spending 4 days in a hot pool with lots of noise and crowds.  It is important for me to have these reminders of when I need to 'let go' of a schedule and allow myself time away from sewing and creating~it makes me come back fresher~that is after I have caught up on my sleep!

I am always checking out resources of hand embroidery from around the world.  Colcha is one of those that can be found historically here in New Mexico.  It is fascinating to see the folk art of animals and plants translated into stitched designs.  The latest book I checked out of the library was 'New Mexico Colcha Embroidery' by Susan H. Ellis (it looks like it is way OOP, if you are looking for it check your library) and here are some of the designs I traced out for use on some upcoming napkins and aprons:

And yes I snuck a peek at an upcoming Taichi in here too. This one is gonna have you humming along.

Adventures in Thrifting or Running out with Scissors

Day 152

I love the thrill of not knowing what you will find when you enter the thrift store....

...I am a sucker for the perfect married couple, ya know cause now that I am myself part of an old married couple of 14 years and all lol, AH romance but I love when I find little statues like this or the cake topper type ones.....

....these jaunty gentlemen hopped into my cart to be added to my bunny collection...don't they look suave? I think they are going to start picking up bunny girls any moment now with pickup lines like 'hey baby why don't you come over to my hole, I'll show you my eggs' hehehehe or 'you know what they say about long ears right? wink wink eyebrow waggle' my inner monologue is a riot right? but you'll never look at these bunnies the same way again will you? CHUCKLE...

squeeee isn't the mousie lady total cuteness? she reminds me of my infinite love of all things Beatrix Potter (its not Beatrix Potter but I am sure it is inspired by her) so I was instantly drawn to her and the cheesy milk glass pitcher thing in a beautiful blue color...they were both Avon things....

I love my little knick knacks....I keep them for a while, get inspired, smile when I see them.... until I get bored or want to redecorate and then rehome them...heck who can't beat decorating on a nickel and dime thrift store budget?!

...as I was checking out my inside man at the store remembered he had just gotten in a scissor stash which I scooped up, the 2 on the left are a scalloped and regular pinking shears.....

....this store is my goldmine of vintage needlework, more stuff to keep me busy at my new job during the graveyard shifts.....

and since everything in fashion becomes new and 'cool' again my tweenies wanted this pattern
