Momtastic's Whimsey #5: Nevermore....Poor Lenore

I am a member of the Whimseybox Design Team and will be putting together weekly crafts and projects based on the items that come in the monthly boxes.  I try to use only what I receive in my boxes.  I am proud to be a part of this group of extraordinarily crafty people.  If you want more ideas go to Whimseybox's Portfolio of Projects.

Hands down this was THE BEST WHIMSEYBOX I have EVER received.  Why?  because the DecoArt Ink Effects were new to me and I did not have to use anything else for this project but what I received in the box~HAPPY DANCE!

Supplies from the September Whimseybox:

Thin paintbrushes

Red Decoart InkEffects Paint

Cotton/Poly Scarf

Other supplies:

Iron

Computer paper

Imagination!

It was so easy literally a caveman can do it.  You just start painting.  You can lightly sketch with a pencil your design, print a design or even finger paint it on.  Remember if you write words reverse them so they will show up the right way when ironed on.

I randomly drew out a raven and sort of a skeletal hand.  In the ironed on pictures you can see where the prints were lighter in the ligher painted areas and darker in others, this could produce some really interesting effects.

Then you let the paint dry for 30 minutes and iron it onto your cloth.  Apparently you can get 3 transfers per painting piece but I only did one for these.

The colors paint darker than they print but that doesn't really bother me too much.  There is a free guide you can look at to see the colors before and after, check in the aisle where you buy your paints.

Once they dried completely the fabric was not stiff nor did it crack when moved.

I have never been this excited about a new craft/paint product as I am with these.  I foresee lots of possibilities and plan on purchasing a bunch of new colors soon.

Apparently they work best on their own with a more synthetic than natural fabric BUT there are sprays you can purchase to prep the natural fabrics to hold the paint AND you can wash these!!

After trying unsuccessfully all weekend to tie a blog to my Momtastic Stitchery website we go back to ye olde Blogger....

After a rather long hiatus from blogging because life just got in the way and I just got tired of 'doing the blog' we are back in full swing with lots of sewing, craft and home projects going on....so back to the title of this post......

......wooden pigs obtained while thrifting ~looks like these were carving boards~ but they just looked like something else to me.....like decorations I could cover with fabric and hang on the wall, yea thats it....cover with....

....space invader fabric...

....so together we get.....dramatic music....

......PIGSS......IN.....SPACE......(invaders).......chuckle....

....giggle...

.....snort.......

...and just because its funny, oh so funny, they need to make Muppets again it sure would beat a lot of crap on TV now that causes me not to watch much anymore....

Day 138

Well this week has been that week...busy busy hurry hurry you're late you're late for a very important date......so I am somewhere sitting in between the Mad Hatter and the March Hare throwing things about....

Scenes from the creative lair after a week of working feverishly....

This is what happens when I do a mass end of week cleaning everything leftover from the projects gets piled then sorted and cleaned to happen again when the creativity starts again...I try to keep my space as clean as I can as I work-little stuff- but allow myself the freedom to only do massive cleanings once a week-- I know many of you are like this so no giggling or snickering at the mess and I do clean I will prove it to you with an after photo tonight :)

Day 54

Ah Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and most of us know how LOVE can really tie us up in knots....sort of like this lovely tree that I can't wait to reaquaint myself with in Spring!

My latest project is based on a well known and world wide translated fairy tale happy ending of a boy and a girl....a romantic vintage fabric that was also used for the lining of this cape could not have been more perfect...I will be VERY sad when I run out of this fabric...

and this vintage fabric cut from a pillow case.....some of us might remember our moms having couches, clothes and such made out of this stuff but I can not for the life of me remember what it is called, some sort of damask? but this is softer than I remember when brushing by some Grande Dame wearing an outfit made of this stuff, as a kid I remember things being oh so much more scratchy and annoying.....so once again romantic and vintage for the project....

together they are parts of a quilt square with a Cinderella theme.....divine shoe pattern eh?

We are free to embellish it and mine will be sparkled with topaz colored seed beads-I wish I had excuses to sparkle more things with beads or the Beadazzler and it is all her fault lol such a glitter queen...

...sorry about the wrinkles -on little projects I tend to smush everything flat with my cutting ruler and iron later...probably not a good example to follow but eh I am cool with it for now, always room to improve and learn if I need to right?!...

I am hoping that my quilt block is one of the ones that will be displayed at a future upcoming quilt market, fingers crossed....and shhhh more info later after I turn it in.....hmm maybe one of my new found blog friends who attend quilt market can see if they can locate this tiny square in all that fabric madness, can you say schoolhouse? Oh I do hope it will be there!

....and of course more on the workings of a start-up business this week ...so be inspired, create or just sit and truly see the world....today in Albuquerque it snowed and sleeted and for a moment the world was white all around the house like we were wrapped in a blanket. A comforting thought as we recover from the flu.

These Sis Boom goodies arrived in the mail over the holidays and her fabrics always make me think beach, spring, summer....I love her beauty and creativity and gratuitous use of glitter!

Here is a preview--think standing on the beach and watching the gulls circle lazily in the wind above you (always remember NOT to look directly up if you are standing underneath them if you get my drift)

And here is the Christmas present the girls got for me....sure she is OCD but NO ONE does it like Martha and this book is a handy reference guide almost as good as her wonderful searchable website


Just a leftover lights picture from the holidays...I love lights, the way they sparkle and glow, we put them up in various rooms in our house so we can enjoy them throughout the year
