Mad Scientist Monday #9: Just because I cannot see it, doesn't mean I can't believe it!
Day 210 This is Halloween... so today our Mad Scientist is Jack Skellington from A Nightmare Before Christmas. One of the best animated movies ever and the soundtrack is what makes it that much more wonderful! The story of Jack is of being true to yourself and not trying to be something you are not...I am Jack the Pumpkin King!
We had a pumpkin carving contest this year. Each choosing our favorite and coming up with designs secretly.
Unfortunately this might be the first and last pumpkin G2 ever does as she is apparently allergic to pumpkins because her skin developed a rash and swelled up. We are lucky it was nothing more than that and a benedryl helped.
My hub found a green pumpkin that was unexpectedly almost dayglo orange inside!
G1 was deep in concentration cutting the details of her pumpkin.
Here is our first small mad scientist creation. When we opened our box of Halloween decorations we discovered the batteries of our cheap Jack o' Lantern necklaces that blinked and glowed were dead so instead of throwing them away we experimented with puff paint we had on hand. I think the black one with orange eyes and mouth is my favorite. We are all wearing one today~
Here are all of our pumpkins carved and painted...tonight we will light them!
Oh look there are my second mad scientist creations for today! Since we are no longer homeschooling I am slowly going through all of our schooling materials and supplies. These were from a box of golf pencils I was going to donate along with some crafting stuff...and for some inexplicable reason I had the brilliant idea of jamming all these pencils into styrofoam balls. Yea mad I know, go figure. I did not use any glue or anything just the pencils into the styrofoam spaced out evenly. They make an interesting addition to our Fall decorating. My family decided they were weird but actually cool and dubbed them the pencil sea urchins.
I am loving my pencial sea urchins!
Here are the completed Jack o' Lanterns
G1 did the Mockingjay symbol from the book series The Hunger Games which is to be a movie next year!
My hub did a cyclops. He said the rind was really almost too hard and extremely thick to do any more detail without special tools.
G2 did a UFO flying sideways. It shows up better when it is glowing.
My pumpkin was so hard it resisted any attempt to cut through it with traditional carving tools. I really wanted to sculpt this into a Taichi but instead I decided to paint it leaving the cool outside coloring.
This year we found the most beautiful colorations of pumpkins we have ever seen. Such cool variety!
Another view of the pencil sea urchins.
She loves these books but she says they creep her out but she feels compelled to keep reading. Not sure about the movie it might be too upsetting.
LOL well that doesn't mean we got around to lighting them and last year I forgot until the last minute and had to fake it like I meant to do that so we did them after the fact lol
very creative. Pumpkins at our house, zero. Next year for sure. Happy halloween!
