Day 205 Today we present to you (a little late due to flu bug running amok in our house) Hiccup from the book and movie '
How to Train Your Dragon' he makes a lot of inventions my favorite of which is the a tail half for his new friend Toothless the Dragon. We love this movie in our house, the dragon is so adorable and well if you read the books they have so much more in them than the movie about being yourself despite the status quo. You may recall that last year I made a
Toothless costume for a client's dog and an
Astrid skirt.
Well that movie inspired us when we found this costume tunic at the thrift store recently. Yes my husband and I have been enjoying going on dates to various thrift and antique stores and we are working on getting the online
Momtastic Stitchery website up and running with some vintage aprons and linens that we have discovered (more on that later). But we have been having way too much fun working together~he is my favorite employee!
So we did end up purchasing the tunic at the thrift store even though we try to keep our Mad Scientist projects to only things from around the house but it was a $1 and I sometimes would rather rise to the challenge of altering a garment than making something from scratch.
|
The tunic was a pull over the head type deal and was sewn down the faux leather part in the front. |
|
We wanted a jacket instead so we cut the stitches down the center to separate the pieces and found this belt at the thrift store. |
|
I just put 3 belt loops (1 in the back and 1 on either side) of scrap pieces of brown linen and voila instant cool viking looking jacket. |
Apparently G1 is planning on wearing this a lot and not just at Halloween. I think it looks pretty cool and fashion lately is all about the furry faux fur. I can't pull it off personally but she is an imaginative cosplaying teen and these are the least of our worries as parents.
More on the unique handmade mask in a later post.
So what will you create today?
